Q1: What grade level should we start teaching CS (Computer Science) concepts? #oklaed #CSEdWeek pic.twitter.com/l9G4SF0wWY

A1: NEW Oklahoma computer science academic standards begin in kindergarten! Check them out: https://t.co/zXrghhYNp1 #CSEdweek #oklaed https://t.co/omtxibfME2

Q2: How do you or your district meet the Oklahoma Academic Standard for Computer Science? https://t.co/ACUAQl2uvL
— Botguy (@BotballRobotics) December 3, 2018
Give examples #oklaed #CSEdWeek pic.twitter.com/wWPfpSXs9e
A2 I think Ts are still learning as we have additional tech they are gradually becoming more interested now using it authenticity…but we need more convo about standards. #OklaEd
— Jennifer Seitsinger (@room20awesome) December 3, 2018
A2: I'm not familiar with how or when our district implements the CS standards but I do know that we are a technology embracing district and whatever is in the best interest of the child is when and how we do it #oklaed
— Renee Bell (@Biobellrocks) December 3, 2018

Q3: The bureau of labor indicates 72% of all jobs in STEM will be CS. What is your district doing to prepare your students? #oklaed #CSEdWeek pic.twitter.com/GWVv03pRiz
— Botguy (@BotballRobotics) December 3, 2018
A3: Merely having a few course offerings is not enough. Comp science concepts need to be embedded in our T’s, S’s and our front offices’ daily practices. #oklaed #CSedWeek https://t.co/UIZdkiCTVd
— Shane A. Sanders, M.Ed. (@edu_sanders70) December 3, 2018
A3: We have great career tech programs, Bio-Med, and are 1-1 yet I feel like until we address some of the antiquated course offerings for students we won’t be giving them the equity they need. #oklaed https://t.co/1NarA52jVg

Q4: What are your favorite Computer Science resources you use to meet the Oklahoma Academic Standards for Computer Science? #oklaed #CSEdWeek pic.twitter.com/gROMNMXbe5
— Botguy (@BotballRobotics) December 3, 2018
A4: Not an specific CS resource but as a parent, I use https://t.co/pI0l4krpYy as a great resource to supplement and review apps my kiddos use #oklaed #CSEdWeek
— Anne Beck (@MrsBeck25) December 3, 2018
A4: Swift Playgrounds is a great way for students to learn how to code! It is super easy to use and very student-friendly! #oklaed

Q4b: What are your favorite Computer Science unplugged activities? #oklaed #CSEdWeek pic.twitter.com/jXBeDiU9Ue
— Botguy (@BotballRobotics) December 3, 2018
A4b: I love the use of makerspaces to teach CS concepts. I just recently heard from Enid PS on how they are using makerspaces in the early grades #oklaed
— Stephanie Hinton (@thestephhinton) December 3, 2018
A4b: Legos come to mind! #oklaed #CSEdWeek https://t.co/yVMsaVaOCz

Q5: New ISTE CT (computational thinking) Standards are on preview for feedback. Thoughts? Feedback?
— Botguy (@BotballRobotics) December 3, 2018

A5…thats the rub isn't it. My gut says we should still be able to do both. Both can be useful/instructive. #oklaed
— Mr Hartford (@HartfordJimmy) December 3, 2018
A5 The best thing about it is that it is embedded in current instruction. May stress some people out to think about it, but reflecting on how instruction can be adjusted to incorporate these thought processes is critical #oklaed
— Jason Bengs (@jasonbengs) December 3, 2018
A5)First thought for the ISTE CT Standards- Defining Computational Thinking- I think teachers will run away if they don't understand what it truly mean.. It doesn't mean : TEACH Coding…#oklaed

Q5b: At what grade level do you this students should move from graphical (Scratch) to text based code? #oklaed #CSEdWeek pic.twitter.com/dLUX4gZATH
— Botguy (@BotballRobotics) December 3, 2018
A5b: Tough to tie it to a grade level IMO, may need to offer different levels/types of class so students can learn it at their own pace. #oklaed
— Steve Gilliland (@Stv_Gilliland) December 3, 2018
A5b: Not sure;. But with my work with @BotballRobotics I have learned our Ss are learning much later.. #justsayin #oklaed #CSedWeek
— Anne Beck (@MrsBeck25) December 3, 2018

Q6: What activities do you use in the classroom to increase students' computational thinking? #oklaed #CSEdWeek pic.twitter.com/ZILkK6kvNO
— Botguy (@BotballRobotics) December 3, 2018
A6: Inquiry based learning is my favorite approach. There's so much value in self discovery. Even if there's an error in reasoning, research indicates Ss are creating stronger connections through doing. #oklaed #CSEdWeek https://t.co/OYVLdQygig
— Carri Hicks (@hicks4ok) December 3, 2018
A6- I think most of ELA is about inquiry, critical thinking, logical thought, argument, and creativity (or it should be). We do this every single day. Shoot – even my kids who want to do video game design have to understand the components of storytelling. #oklaed #csedweek https://t.co/QwnAtUUNWx

Q7: What questions do you have about engaging students in Computer Science and STEM? #oklaed #CSEdWeek pic.twitter.com/DR14UCKaDy
— Botguy (@BotballRobotics) December 3, 2018
A7: My only question is around T engagement. What do Ts truly need to be successful at integrating the new standards? PD, time, a crash course in ideas? I found once I started integrating #STEM in my lessons, it unleashed a whole new passion for teaching. #oklaed #CSEdWeek https://t.co/gCrwoUicFh
— Carri Hicks (@hicks4ok) December 3, 2018
A7 – No real questions, but would argue we need to add the extra letter & make it STEAM. The arts are equally important – need creativity and communication! #oklaed #csedweek https://t.co/Y8Q6swWzQ8

Q8: How can teachers implement CS in other courses such as ELA, History, Science, or Math? #oklaed #CSEdWeek pic.twitter.com/MC0Bj06BeK
— Botguy (@BotballRobotics) December 3, 2018
A8 – Honestly, I think the concepts are naturally a part of ELA. Analysis, critical thinking, inquiry, logic, argumentation, creativity, communication through writing, etc. I add design challenges in every unit (@stanforddschool) so Ss prototype/test, etc. #oklaed #csedweek https://t.co/C2Jl81TyYZ

Q9: How do you provide CS activities and resources to your students beyond Hour of Code and CS Education Week? Why is it important? #CSEdWeek #oklaed pic.twitter.com/3WYCOs3idJ
— Botguy (@BotballRobotics) December 3, 2018
A9: By not teaching 1 yr 20 times. Teach 20 yrs, the kids are different every year, we should be too because we should never stop learning. #oklaed
— Steve Gilliland (@Stv_Gilliland) December 3, 2018
A9: Since I’m not a teacher, I can o my say I truly believe including CS in all levels and content areas has value. The kids we are teaching need to know CS standards to be successful in this growing world! #oklaed

I guess some of my push back is that we have a lot of PDs that go nowhere. There's a lot to do. However, if coding is a district goal then yes, we need PDs. Make sense? #oklaed
