Overview of chat topic
#OklaEd Votes
Let's keep the discussion lively, thoughtful, and respectful. #oklaed

The first question is coming up in a minute or so. pic.twitter.com/QkL8078Prg
Questions from the chat:

Q1 How do you vote? In person early? Election day at your precinct? Absentee? Why do you prefer this method? #oklaed pic.twitter.com/oKbNkBUd9g
— Rick Cobb (@grendelrick) November 5, 2018
A1: I vote in person on Election Day. I think I just like the idea of going in and being a voter. It seems more legit in person. #Oklaed
— Renee Bell (@Biobellrocks) November 5, 2018
A1 – I vote on Election Day because I love wearing my sticker. I voted absentee once and felt so left out! #fomo #oklaed https://t.co/jH3EOF6iPs

Q2 What is the most important issue for #oklaed, no matter what the outcome of the election happens to be? pic.twitter.com/CrLZmDFAlw
— Rick Cobb (@grendelrick) November 5, 2018
A2 We need to follow democratic processes in our Oklahoma legislature when it comes to our budget process. Our budget is still decided behind closed doors, & literally at the 11th hour legislators are shown the budget & asked to vote w/o time to debate. This must change! #OklaEd
— Wesley Fryer, Ph.D. 🌎🎙🚀 (@wfryer) November 5, 2018
A2) To increase and solidify funding for #oklaed and to diversify our economy so it is not so dependent on oil and gas.

Q3 Keeping your most important issue in mind, who do you want to be elected governor? And why?#oklaed pic.twitter.com/r3FcK1pVs2
— Rick Cobb (@grendelrick) November 5, 2018
A3 – I am not a 1 issue voter. @DrewForOklahoma not only is a huge supporter of #oklaed, but knows we are suffering in so many areas of our state. My Ss are affected greatly by the cuts to ALL core services. We need CJ reform, access to mental health services, etc. https://t.co/I7eNKHYqjn
— Shari Gateley (@ShariGateley) November 5, 2018
A3: I am pretty sure everyone is going to say Edmondson. I hope someone will say his opponent just so I can get why. I am voting because he listens. This is so needed now. So tired of people not listening to me but they represent me. #oklaed
— Mrs. Telannia Norfar (@thnorfar) November 5, 2018

Q4 Again, with your most important issue in mind, who do you want to be elected state superintendent? And why? #oklaed pic.twitter.com/xaxMPqQjR1
— Rick Cobb (@grendelrick) November 5, 2018
A4: I know everyone is saying @joy4ok because she has always been there for us. What has made me really fight for her is when she stood up against Fallin and the consolidation. She shows she is not about her political party. That is what we need everywhere! #oklaed
— Mrs. Telannia Norfar (@thnorfar) November 5, 2018
A4: @joy4ok of course! I see her at PD, at conferences, in OKC. She goes where the action is and stands up to those who want to take from #oklaed . I know a good thing when we have it – and I want to keep her working for us! https://t.co/KMFrgCGWo0

Q5 What other statewide races are important #oklaed races? And who do you support in those races? pic.twitter.com/7bgqNj2yzj
— Rick Cobb (@grendelrick) November 5, 2018
A5 I am sure I am going to be a lone voice in this but judicial votes are huge. We can’t keep voting keep. We have the highest prison incarceration. All issues eventually impact school and this is a big one! #oklaed https://t.co/DxozucYlHE
— Mrs. Telannia Norfar (@thnorfar) November 5, 2018
A5 Me! Hahaha #Oklaed

Q6 Who are you supporting in your local state representative and/or senator race? #oklaed pic.twitter.com/M6W0xyoKZb

Q7 In 2019, the Capitol will be full of rookie legislators. After the election, how soon is too soon to make contact with your new representative or senator? #oklaed #askingforafriend pic.twitter.com/txBCV8CEU1
— Rick Cobb (@grendelrick) November 5, 2018
A7: It is never too soon to contact Representatives! Let them know you can’t wait to work with them, you are thankful they are in office, etc…! #oklaED
— Madison (@MadisonOUed) November 5, 2018
A7: Minute one? #oklaed

Q8 State Question 800 would withhold a portion of Gross Production Tax collections for a new reserve fund. Are you for or against this question, and why? https://t.co/m0c3oEzxaO #oklaed pic.twitter.com/uMaiAAr4jA
— Rick Cobb (@grendelrick) November 5, 2018
A8: against. Too vague. #oklaed https://t.co/a6KaweH08W
— Kristin Geist (@kdwviolin) November 5, 2018
A8: Against anything that distracts from the real problem, tax cuts resulting in reduction of vital social services. #oklaed #okleg https://t.co/r4aWYknOxx
— Aaron Baker (@bakerleft) November 5, 2018

Q9 State Question 801 would allow school districts to take the money in their building fund and use it like general fund money. Are you for this state question or against it? Why? #oklaed https://t.co/3N3Aqt37dB pic.twitter.com/pw5dGBemhI
— Rick Cobb (@grendelrick) November 5, 2018
A9 If there were a statewide building fund like our neighbors to the south, this might be a viable option. Until then, why force us to choose facilities over faculty #oklaed
— Jason Bengs (@jasonbengs) November 5, 2018
A9: I am opposed to this SQ bc it lets the legislators off the hook I think and puts it on school admin to determine how the money is spent. It’s lazy legislation. #oklaed

Boomsauce Tweet(s) of the Night:
Erin:
A9 #oklaed As a superintendent, I can tell you that I will support any measure that helps with funding. SQ 801 does not. It neither provides more revenue nor more flexibility. I wouldn't change the state constitution to convert a quarter to five nickels. https://t.co/bS7Vz5sPBB
— Rick Cobb (@grendelrick) November 5, 2018
Scott:
A2: As a preservice teacher I would love to become a teacher in Oklahoma, but some of the biggest factors that make me question that are the issues of competitive wages and the old resources in classrooms. Our students deserve better! #oklaed
